Colovore is delivering much-needed AI infrastructure in Chicago to support ultra-high-density, low-latency workloads

Across the U.S., demand for AI infrastructure is shifting beyond simply securing power capacity. Organizations deploying AI inference and other latency-sensitive workloads increasingly need infrastructure located close to users, data, and critical systems, making low-latency, metro-edge deployments a strategic requirement rather than a preference.

Chicago exemplifies this shift. The region is a major hub for healthcare, financial services, large enterprises, and one of the nation's most connected fiber ecosystems. Colovore's ORD01 campus in Aurora demonstrates that capability. Colovore broke ground on ORD01 at the end of last year, and the first data center on the campus is scheduled to be brought online in December of this year. The liquid-cooled 6 MW facility is purpose-built to support AI and high-performance computing workloads, providing customers with the dense power, advanced cooling, and low-latency connectivity required for modern AI deployments.

ORD01 supports ultra-high-density deployments of up to 600+ kW per rack through advanced direct-to-chip liquid-cooled architecture engineered for the latest GPU and accelerator platforms. The facility's closed-loop liquid-cooling system targets a Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) of 0, meaning it uses no municipal water for cooling, while also being designed to achieve a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) rating of 1.3 to maximize operational efficiency.

ORD01 provides sub-0.1 ms latency to CME's matching engines and sub-5 ms latency to 350 East Cermak, Chicago's primary carrier hotel. This proximity makes the facility ideally suited for latency-sensitive workloads, including deterministic trading, real-time AI inference, and fraud detection. That proximity enables organizations to deploy AI infrastructure close enough to critical systems to support real-time decision-making without relying on distant cloud regions.
